Friendship from across the globe
This morning my host sister, Angela and I, took a huge coach bus to visit a University. Her mom dropped us off at the school gate to meet for the bus. There, I was greeted with so many friendly smiles and hellos! Many of Angela's classmates approached me with little gifts! It was so sweet of them! One of my new Shanghai friends, Ieanea gave me a beautifully wrapped box with green tea, chocolate, a pink bowl, and a nicely written card! My other new friend, Ball, also gave me a card and little heart and rose shaped origami. It was so beautiful! I felt so honored to receive their gifts.
After opening the presents, and handing them thank you cards, It took about 45 minutes to get to the University. However, once we arrived, it was so amazing. The campus is so different and unique from American colleges that I have visited. At the school, we did many lab experiments, like building robots and examining a 3-D printer. It was so cool! During the lessons, Angela's classmates engaged in many conversations with me, asking many questions: "Do you have a boyfriend?" "Do you have many examinations at you're school?" "What's Connecticut?" "Do you want some food?" I answered all of their questions, even the ones that I didn't quite understand. They even asked me if I liked math, and I said yes. Wanting me to show them my math homework I did, and of course everyone is passing my Geometry homework around the room and laughing. They kept saying "This is so easy!" "We learned this when we were 10!" "I'm going to do this homework for you!" I thought it was so funny, and 5 minutes later my math homework was complete... thanks Shanghai no.3 girls school!
However, even though visiting the university was interesting, the best part of the day was talking with Angela's classmates and learning more about their daily lives! I hope to keep in touch with the new friends I made in China as we make our way through this amazing trip!
